PAIA (The Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000)

PAIA refers to the Promotion of Access to Information Act, it’s the freedom of information law in South Africa, which is enforced by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC). It allows access to any information held by the state and by private bodies that is required for the exercise and protection of any rights. The intention of this ‘Act’ is to foster a culture of transparency and accountability in both public and private bodies.
